12 Mountain Hiking Inspired Essential Oil Blends for an Outdoorsy Atmosphere
Bring a little mountain-trail atmosphere indoors with these essential oil blends built around pine, fir, cypress, citrus, and frankincense. The combinations take their inspiration from evergreen paths, open ridgelines, and the last stretch of a long hike.
For an evergreen-focused blend, start with High Country Sky. For a citrus-led option, try Trail Dust Sunset. Rucksack at the Lookout combines pine and fir with smaller amounts of grapefruit and frankincense. These are home-fragrance ideas; the names describe imagined scenery, not health benefits.
Before you start
Use these combinations only in a diffuser designed for essential oils, following its instructions for compatible oils, water fill level, oil quantity, and operating time. The drop counts show each blend’s proportions, not a universal dose for every device. Don’t add the full recipe if it exceeds your diffuser’s directions, and don’t automatically double a recipe for a larger room.
These aren’t recipes for skin application, baths, or ingestion. Keep bottles and the diffuser out of children’s and pets’ reach, and lock away oils after use. Poison Control cautions that essential oils can cause poisoning when misused and recommends following product directions.
If you have pets, ask your veterinarian before diffusing these blends. The ASPCA advises avoiding essential oil diffusers in homes with birds and taking particular care with pets that have breathing problems. An outdoorsy scent doesn’t make a blend suitable for every household.

Choose a blend from the oils you already own
You don’t need all seven oils to try this collection. Scots pine, frankincense, and pink grapefruit are enough for Pine Needle Path. If you also have lemon, you can make Granite Switchback by using it in place of the grapefruit, following that recipe’s quantities.
Try one combination at a time and note the oils you used and whether you’d choose that blend again. Clean the diffuser according to its instructions between blends so leftover fragrance doesn’t muddy the next combination. Start with one recipe that appeals to you before buying oils for the rest.
