You have probably heard it is best to sterilize baby bottles. But while you probably only need to sterilize baby bottles before using for the first time, it is surprising how many new moms don’t know how to sterilize bottles or are doing it wrong. Here is how to properly sterilize baby bottles, nipples, pacifiers and other accessories before using.
First, bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Then submerge your bottles, nipples, pacifiers etc for a minimum of five minutes (use a timer so you don’t short yourself on time!). They do need to keep submerged so place something heavy on top to keep them submerged, such as a wire veggie steamer. Remove from boiling water (use tongs or carefully drain) and let the bottles air dry on a clean towel or paper towels. Now they are sterilized.
