What is meditation and should you use it?
Meditation conjures up a wide variety of images for women. Many women who practice meditation call it relaxation to the extreme. While relaxing, your mind can still wander to all kinds of thoughts, such as what to cook for dinner and what time your kids need to be picked up from a friends house.
But meditation goes even further. During true meditation, your mind will not wander. Instead, you will keep your mind alert, and most importantly, focused.
People can meditate in many different ways, but nearly all begin the same way – with relaxation, and then the focusing onto the meditation itself, ignoring everyday distractions.
So how to people meditate? Some focus on a certain object. This is similar to how you would focus on an object during labor. This was a form of meditation to help you focus on something other than the pain of labor.
Others will chant to meditate, and others will breathe in particular patterns to meditate.
Many community centers, and even some fitness centers offer classes teaching the basics of mediation. There are also many books on the market to assist you in learning how to meditate.
