This simple sweet and sour sauce can be frozen in whatever serving size you like, if you prefer not to freeze the entire batch on its own.
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Pepper to taste
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- In a medium saucepan, sauté garlic in small amount of oil until golden brown. Immediately add remaining ingredients and combine well, bringing to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer for five or so minutes, or until it is thickened and all lumps are dissolved. Freeze.
On cooking day
- Thaw and heat in medium saucepan. You can add your favorite additions to sweet and sour sauce while reheating, such as pineapple chunks or green peppers. Ready for serving with your favorite Chinese food dish!
If you love adding a little bit of sweet and sour sauce to rice, noodles or even just cooked plain chicken, you can freeze this sauce in ice cube trays, so you have a small bit of sweet and sour sauce to add to any meal.
