Fresh herbs can add a flavorful kick to any slow cooker meal over using the dried herb equivalent. But since fresh herbs are not normally called for in recipes for convenience sake, how should you add fresh herbs to the slow cooker instead?
Fresh herbs should not be added to the start when using a slow cooker though. Instead, you will want to add them to the last 30 minutes of cooking, or else the herbs will be completely overcooked and won’t impart the same flavors.
For this reason, it is often more convenient to simply used dried herbs instead of fresh herbs. But if you do have fresh herbs on hand, save them until shortly before the end of cooking. And you can always add dried herbs to the start and then freshen it up with those fresh herbs at the end too.
