Beer has become a trendy ingredient in cooking over the past few years. You’ll see a lot more recipes that incorporate beer into it, either in the cooking process or perhaps in a meat marinade. Has come a long way since most people only use beer in cooking for beer can chicken.
But if you need to substitute beer in a recipe, either because you don’t want to use beer for personal reasons, or you don’t have any on hand, what can you use in place of it?
The most similar substitute, of course, would be non-alcoholic beer, if you are not wanting to use the alcoholic version of beer. If you take beer out of the equation completely there are some great substitutes you can use instead.
Fortunately, there is an easy ingredient to substitute. The easiest substitute, and most likely already have it in your kitchen, is simply substituting chicken broth in the same proportions for the beer. You can also use ginger ale, white grape juice or white cranberry juice instead.
The recipe calls for a specific type of dark beer, you can use beef broth, mushroom broth or again just chicken broth in place of it. You can also use root beer instead.
