Gathering Your Culinary Cast

  • Chicken: 5 cups, cooked and cubed – the star of our show.
  • Vegetable Oil: 2 tablespoons for sautéing our supporting characters.
  • Fresh Mushrooms: 3 cups, sliced – adding earthy notes to our citrus symphony.
  • White Flour: 4 teaspoons to thicken our sauce to perfection.
  • Water & Orange Juice Concentrate: Creating the liquid gold that binds our flavors.
  • Green Onions: 1 cup, sliced – for that pop of freshness and color.
  • Chicken Bouillon: To deepen the savory undertones of our dish.
  • Mandarin Oranges: For the grand, sweet citrus finale.
  • Rice: The fluffy cloud on which our mandarin chicken will rest.

Your Kitchen Toolkit

  • Large Skillet: For sautéing and simmering your way to greatness.
  • Freezer Containers: Your meal’s cozy hibernation homes.
  • Saucepan: For reheating the magic to life.
  • Rice Cooker or Pot: Because every hero needs a trusty steed.

Crafting Your Culinary Masterpiece

Stage 1: The Sauté Session

Heat your skillet and introduce the mushrooms to the warmth of vegetable oil. Let them get acquainted until the mushrooms are tender and glistening.

Stage 2: The Thickening Plot

Sprinkle in the flour, whisking bravely, then slowly pour in the water mixed with orange juice concentrate. This is where our sauce starts to thicken and our plot, I mean pot, thickens!

Stage 3: The Flavor Infusion

Add the sliced green onions and chicken bouillon, stirring the pot of intrigue. Once the bouillon has dissolved and shared its secrets, add the cooked chicken, letting it simmer and soak up all the flavors.

Stage 4: The Freezer Time Capsule

Allow your creation to cool before transferring it into freezer containers, sealing away the flavors until their grand reveal.

Serving Day: The Grand Finale

When the day comes to unveil the magic, thaw your container, then gently heat the mixture in a saucepan. Right before serving, stir in the mandarin oranges, warming them through just enough to share their sweetness.

Serve over hot, fluffy rice and watch as the plates come back empty, the smiles wide, and the requests for seconds (or the recipe) pour in.
