  • Convenience: Have a delicious appetizer or snack ready to go in minutes.
  • Customizable: Adjust the marinade to suit your spice level and flavor preferences.

Step-by-Step Guide to Making BBQ Chicken Wings

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs chicken wings
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder or 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl or large Ziploc bag
  • Cookie sheet
  • Tin foil
  • Freezer bags

Instructions

1. Marinate the Wings

  • In a mixing bowl or large Ziploc bag, combine soy sauce, vegetable oil, chili sauce, honey, salt, ginger, garlic, and cayenne pepper to create the marinade.
  • Add the chicken wings, ensuring they’re well-coated with the marinade. Refrigerate for a few hours, preferably overnight, turning occasionally to marinate evenly.

2. Bake the Wings

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a cookie sheet with tin foil for easy cleanup.
  • Arrange the marinated wings on the sheet, ensuring they don’t overlap. Bake for 30 minutes, then turn the wings and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Baste with the leftover marinade every 10-15 minutes for maximum flavor.

3. Cool and Freeze

  • Allow the wings to cool. For individual quick-freeze, spread them on a cookie sheet and place in the freezer. Once frozen, transfer the wings to freezer bags, separating them into desired portion sizes.

Freezing and Reheating Tips

  • Flash Freezing: This method prevents the wings from sticking together, allowing you to cook only as many as you need at a time.
  • Reheating: Place the frozen wings on a cookie sheet and heat in a preheated 375°F oven for 10-15 minutes, or until hot and crispy.

Customization Tips and Serving Suggestions

  • Spice Variations: Feel free to tweak the marinade ingredients to adjust the heat level or add your favorite spices.
  • Sauce Options: Experiment with different BBQ sauces for basting to find your perfect match. A brush of sauce right before serving can also enhance the flavor.
  • Serving Ideas: Pair your wings with classic sides like celery sticks and blue cheese dressing, or get creative with dips and accompaniments to suit your theme.
