Dogs love the taste of beef and cheese, and combining these into a treat is sure to get their tails wagging. These beef cheeseburger dog treats are packed with flavors that dogs adore, and they’re made with love by their favorite human. Plus, the act of baking for your dog strengthens the bond between you two, making these treats a gift of love and health.

Ingredients & Preparation

Before we start, preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and gather the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup Uncooked Oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups Beef Broth (hot)
  • 1 cup Grated Cheese
  • 1 Egg, Beaten
  • 1 cup Wheat Germ
  • 1/4 cup Margarine (melted)
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Milk
  • 1/4 tbsp Salt
  • 1 cup Cornmeal
  • 3 cups Whole Wheat Flour

Step-by-Step Baking Instructions

1. Mixing the Base: In a large bowl, combine the oatmeal and melted margarine. Pour the hot beef broth over this mixture, stirring slowly to combine.

2. Adding the Goodies: Stir in the powdered milk, grated cheese, salt, and beaten egg until everything is evenly mixed.

3. Dry Ingredients: Add the cornmeal and wheat germ to the mixture, ensuring a thorough blend. Gradually mix in the whole wheat flour, a quarter cup at a time, until the dough becomes firm and workable.

4. Kneading the Dough: Remove the dough from the bowl and knead it on a flat surface for about 4 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour to get the right consistency.

5. Rolling and Cutting: Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Then, use cookie cutters to cut the dough into shapes that your dog will love.

6. Baking to Perfection: Place the cutouts on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. After baking, turn off the oven but leave the treats inside until they cool down. This process helps to make the treats extra crunchy.

Additional Tips for Treat Success

  • Storage Solutions: Once cooled, store the treats in an airtight container. They should last for a few weeks, ensuring your dog has a steady supply of delicious snacks.
  • Cheese Varieties: Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese to find out which one your dog loves the most. Just make sure it’s safe for canine consumption.
  • Custom Shapes: Use cookie cutters in fun shapes to make the treats even more special. Whether it’s bones, hearts, or even doggie faces, your creativity is the limit!
  • Health Check: Always consult with your vet before introducing new treats to your dog’s diet, especially if they have specific dietary restrictions.
