Why does it always seemed that the cork will break right when you have guests arriving all expecting their first glass of wine. It is pretty unclassy to be fishing little bits of cork out of each guest’s wine glass, but you certainly don’t want to be handing your guests glasses of wine with cork floating in it.
What you can do is strain in the wind as you pour from the bottle. Take a small piece of cheesecloth, and place it over the top of the bottle. Secure with a rubber band are applying, and then pour the wine as usual, allowing the cheesecloth to strain the bits of cork for you. The cheesecloth, depending on the size of the holes, should not let any bits of cork through and into the glass.
