Sometimes your best reaction to a temper tantrum is absolutely nothing at all. Often, when you try and reason with your child, especially a younger one, it just seems to make it worse, because they often can’t see any other side but their own in the heat of the moment.
By ignoring the temper tantrum, he or she will eventually run out of steam. Oftentimes you will find that after your child has finished their screaming or yelling that the thing that started the temper tantrum in the first place has been forgotten.
If children have a temper tantrum somewhere that is unsafe for them to be (a store, a backyard deck, the swimming pool), pick them up and carry them somewhere safer. The last thing you want is an uncontrollable child who then injures themselves because they weren’t paying attention to anything but their temper tantrum.
