Don't
give in to your child's demands
No means no when
it comes to your children too. But many parents find it easier
to give in to their child's demands, whether it be for another
cookie or to watch a favorite show. But your actions are detrimental
to your child's behavior.
The problem is
that once you give into a demand, the child learns that they
can manipulate your behavior by screaming, yelling, kicking,
or whatever bad behavior ended up with getting her what she
wanted in the first place.
Children, even
small toddlers, are smarter than you think. Even giving in
once to bad behavior can make it one hundred times harder
to enforce the rules the next time around. If you say it is
bathtime, it is bathtime - don't let him watch ten more minutes
of television before he has to have his bath, simply because
he had a temper tantrum.
