Should you have a one night stand or a fling?
There is nothing wrong with having a fling or a one night stand for the sole reason that is because you are also a parent. But should you decide to become involved in a relationship that you know will not lead to anything permanent, there are some steps you should take to prevent you or your children from getting hurt.
You should avoid having your fling partner become involved in your children’s lives, even on a purely innocent level. When you know the relationship will not be permanent, you don’t want your children to become attached to him.
You should always practice safe sex. Period.
Take care that you don’t develop any sort of reputation that could travel back to your children. If you have repeated flings, try to be discreet so that it does not become a source of embarassment to your children or other family members.
You will also want to be careful that any of your behavior does not become grounds for a possible custody battle, if your children’s father feels your behavior could negatively impact them. Behavior that is seen as unseemly or un-parental-like can affect custody battles, especially when your ex could be looking for ammunition for a custody battle.
