Can you wash your clothes with cold water in the washing machine

It can be tempting to save money on your electric bill by not using hot water in your washing machine freezing cold water instead. But is this really a smart decision once you factor in other things? Unfortunately, the answer is not really.

When you wash clothes in cold water, unless the garment washing instructions clearly state cold water only, you will find that your clothing does not get as clean when you wash with cold water into the warm or hot. This is because laundry detergent does not dissolve as well in cold water as a dozen warm or hot water.

So even though you might save money on your electric bill, chances are pretty good you will find the clothes aren't clean and you'll need to wash them again. So don't be tempted to save money with cold water, as it will cost you more the long run.
