Sure, you are probably pretty proud your son or daughter slid into home plate to get that much-needed final run for the game, but you are left with trying to clean the dirt and clay from the baseball uniform so it looks great for the next game. However, that can be easier said than done!
First, take the uniform outside and brush as much of the clay off as possible.
Next, you need powdered laundry detergent, but NOT one with bleach – check the box if you aren’t sure. Measure the usual amount you use into a bowl then add a small amount of ammonia to the detergent to form a thick paste. Wearing gloves, apply the paste to where the dirt and clay stains are on the uniform, then let it set for about 10-15 minutes. Then wash the uniform on the hottest setting the fabric recommends (it will be on the label if you are unsure).
Check the uniform when the wash cycle is complete, then repeat with the laundry paste if neccessary. Do not dry it until the stains are out, once it goes into the dryer, the stains will “set”.
