One drawback to homeschooling is that it can be an expensive undertaking, especially when you consider the impact it has on the homeschooling parent’s ability to work for a full time income. One resource many homeschooling parents utilize is the curriculum fair.
Curriculum fairs are usually held once a year. Parents are able to preview new curriculum and resources for the upcoming school year. But the secondary part of it is other homeschooling parents are selling used or unneeded books, workbooks and unit studies, meaning that you can pick up you entire year’s worth of educational materials at a great rate.
If you are looking for specific curriculum, arrive as early as possible, and bring a partner or friend to help you cover the most ground in the shortest amount of time, each armed with a list. However, don’t overlook the opportunity of the bargains at the end of the day by sellers who don’t want to take the unsold materials back home, or who don’t want to hang onto them for an entire year.
Be sure to check over used curriculum well… check for missing pages or pages that cannot be easily reproduced that are needed for assignments. Once you get home, it is often too late to do anything if you find out all the assignments were removed.
