Homeschool field trips don’t have to be expensive. There are plenty of free or very inexpensive places you can take your kids, giving them field trip educational trips without costing you an arm and a leg for each trip.
Some ideas for inexpensive field trips:
- Local river to see salmon spawn
- Beachcombing – studying shells
- Sea life at the beach
- Identify wildflowers at the park
- pet store
- grocery store
Many businesses are happy to accommodate tours for educational purposes. Just ask and see what the response is!
Also, many parks offer free tours, walks and educational events, tied into the seasons and animals in the park. Your community newspaper will often have information on these kinds of free events.
Be sure to tie in field trips with worksheets, crafts and projects that relate to each place. You can look for printables online, and you can also keep in mind each of these field trips over the course of the year, and when you come across something that would relate to the field trip, simply print it out and put in a special folder or binder, or bookmark it on your computer for later.
