All it takes is one accidentally dropped cigarette for a noticeable burn mark to be made on your carpet. So here is how to remove and hide those nasty burn marks from your carpet, especially if your damage deposit depends on it!

First, with a sharp pair of scissors, trim the burned carpet fibers to remove the burned / melted carpet. Then, in an inconspicious spot, trim tiny pieces of the carpet. Getting in under the baseboard moulding along the wall is a great place to do the tiny trimming, so it won't be noticeable.

Then, with glue or rubber cement, carefully glue the tiny trimmed pieces of carpet into place over the burned area. For best results, weight it down while it dries. Then, using your scissors again to trim back any pieces if they stick up higher than the surrounding carpet. And now you have perfect carpeting once again!
