With Christmas crackers being so expensive, you can easily make your own decorative Christmas crackers at home, for much less money, and include your children in the process!
Supplies:
Toilet paper tubes (as many as needed)
Decorative paper (even cartoon character wrapping paper, such as Disney)
Ribbon
Small toy or treat for inside (ie. pretend rings, tiny games, stickers, etc)
Christmas cracker snaps (found at craft stores or sometimes at WalMart during the season)
Place treat inside, then wrap paper around, leaving plenty of paper on each end. Insert Christmas cracker snaps inside each. Secure each end with ribbon, carefully pulling tight, and being sure to leave the snaps out on each end, so guests can pull on them.
If your kids are feeling crafty, you can use glue to decorate with beads, glitter, etc.
You can also make themed crackers for each member of your family. You might put Transformers on your son’s cracker and put Frozen characters on your daughter’s cracker (or vice versa, depending on their interests!)
You can find snaps at the craft store, but don’t worry if you can’t, they are fun to open and discover the treat inside even if they don’t snap! They tend to sell out quickly, so don’t wait to pick up the snaps at the last minute.
You can also purchase Christmas cracker craft kits too, if you prefer to have a helping hand on the supplies, and especially if you consider the paper crowns a tradition in your family.
