Thawing a turkey in the fridge is one of those problems many cooks face. If you don’t leave enough time, the turkey won’t be unthawed when you need to cook it. On the other hand, if it sits too long in the refrigerator, it can cause problems with the turkey quality as well.
First, check and see how many pounds your turkey weighs. Then use this chart and see how many days it takes to unthaw in the fridge. You will need to put the turkey in the fridge from the freezer that number of days before cooking day, or you will need to buy your frozen turkey from the grocery store on that day.
8 to 12 pounds – needs 1 to 2 days to unthaw in the refrigerator
12 to 16 pounds – needs 2 to 3 days
16 to 20 pounds – needs 3 to 4 days
20 to 24 pounds – needs 4 to 5 days
