You have probably seen celebrities wearing super-dark sunglasses – so dark you can’t see their eyes at all. But did you know that darker sunglasses aren’t nearly as good as their lighter shaded counterparts?
The darker your shades are, the larger your pupils have to open to compensate for the dark. And this actually allows more harmful sun rays into your eyes than their lighter ones.
If you insist on wearing the trendy darker sunglasses, make sure they are labeled as 100% UVA and UVB protection. If they don’t have that claim (for any sunglasses you buy, for that matter), skip them and wait until you can find a pair with the protection.
If you are buying sunglasses from a trendy clothing store and they don’t have the sticker, don’t take the salesgirl’s word for it. Unless they are versed in suncare, they will probably assume all sunglasses are created equal and they will work just the same!
