Buy vegetables in season for the best bargains

Realize you can save money on your vegetables simply by keeping track of what vegetables are in season? Not everyone realizes that broccoli is least expensive during the wintertime or that green onions are most expensive during that same time period.

How can you know what things are in season when? Even the most basic vegetable gardening books can tell you. And some grocery stores even offer a pamphlet on the vegetable seasons, so you can plan on purchasing fruits and vegetables for canning when they are at their cheapest.

When you plan ahead on vegetable season, you can actually spend money on those expensive vegetables when you can get them at their cheapest. So if you're an asparagus lover, your best bet is to buy it between April and June. And if you like to dress up your salads with mustard greens, know that you will get the best price during the summer months.
