If you think the warning of “never shop on an empty stomach” was an old wives tale, think again. Not only are you more likely to spend more money when you’re hungry, you are more likely to spend more money on junk and snack food, instead of healthy food.
Always make a habit of grocery shopping after a meal whether you shop after breakfast, or do your grocery shopping after dinner. And if you’re worried about getting hungry while you shop, bring along a water bottle to quench your thirst and help fill your stomach will you shop.
If you must grocery shop on an empty stomach, be sure you have a strict grocery list and do not deviate from it – particularly in the danger areas of junk food or other snacks. If you aren’t careful, junk food can take a considerable chunk out of your weekly food budget, leaving you with empty calorie foods instead of the healthy foods for meals you need instead, as well as an empty wallet.
