When you start planning your garden, especially when you have a small space to work with – you should be aware that some vegetables require a significantly larger space in the garden to grow. If you have limited space, it might make more sense to grow several other vegetables in the space of one larger vegetable.
Here are the vegetables that are the most space-consuming.
- Artichokes (Globe)
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Corn
- Cucumbers
- Melons
- Peas
- Potatoes
- Sweet Potatoes
- Winter Squash
It is important to remember that some of these vegetables are quite prolific – including cucumbers and peas – so you might find it is worth the added space for those vegetables as a good tradeoff for the extra space required. And because cucumbers are easily canned, you can get use from that plant far past the growing season.
