There are some types of tomatoes which flourish much more readily when grown in containers than other varieties which do better in regular gardens. Do keep in mind that some container grown tomatoes still need stakes or tomato cages in order to grow successfully because the weight of the tomatoes will eventually tip the tomato plants over or break off.
Here are types of tomatoes plants recommended for container gardens.
- Patio
- Sweet 100s
- Toy Boy
- Tiny Tim
- Pixie
- Tumbling Tom
- Small Fry
There may be other regional brands of tomatoes available locally to you. You can always ask the people at your local garden center to recommend a type of tomato for you, being sure you specify it is for container gardening, and the size of container if you have one in mind.
