If you have a container garden, chances are good that you also own a watering can to water your containers with. But if you need to buy one, or are in the market for that perfect watering can, here is some advice on choosing the best watering can for your needs.
Size
Too many people buy “cute” small watering cans, not realizing they will be running backand forth to the sink or tap every minute. Small watering cans are ideal for houseplants or if you only have one or two containers. Any more, and you will spend more time running between the plants and the sink than you will spend doing the actual watering. The two gallon size is ideal for most container gardeners.
Handles
Ideally you should have one handle on top and one handle on the side. If you end up with a watering can with only one handle on the side, you will soon discover how difficult it is once it is filled with surprisingly-heavy water.
Height
The perfect watering can won’t be so perfect if you discover you cannot easily fit it under the sink’s tap, if you plan on filling it at the sink. If so, measure the height beneath the tap so you won’t struggle with filling the watering can.
Material
What is it made out of? If it is plastic, choose a shatter resistant model, especially if you tend to drop things, or if you have children helpers in your garden. If you choose metal, check on the rust-resistant coating.
By using these handy watering can tips, you should be able to find that perfect watering can you covet for your garden.
