What is
freezer cooking?
Freezer cooking
refers to the practice of cooking more than you need for a
meal, and then freezing the rest for later. It can mean anything
from cooking a double batch of spaghetti sauce to making an
entire month's worth of meals in a single day, and freezing
each entre individually for suppers over the entire month.
Freezer cooking
is also referred to as Once a Month Cooking or OAMC, frozen
assets, freezable meals, investment cooking, and other less-common
names. But it all means the same thing.
Freezer cooking
has gained popularity in recent years for many reasons. First,
it is much more nutritious than cooking commercial frozen
meals, ordering take out or eating fast food. Second, it is
a fast alterntative for today's busy parents - between work,
after school activities and other household duties, freezer
meals are a great alternative.
Most freezer meals
require little prep work when you cook them. Some require
you to take it out of the freezer in the morning to thaw during
the day. Others can simply be taken straight from the freezer
to the oven.
There are many
recipe books available for freezer meals, or you can easily
incorporate your favorite recipes into larger batches of freezer
meals.
