Don’t you hate it when you buy a brand new chest freezer and it doesn’t come with any freezer baskets? First off, if you don’t have any freezer baskets, you can buy them at large hardware stores as well as places like WalMart. The more the merrier!
For the lower level, you can use larger sized plastic containers, such as Rubbermaid, to organize. And here is how you organize once you have assorted baskets and containers ready to go.
First, decide how you want to organize. There are two tried-and-true methods. The first involves splitting items into containers by what they are. This could be beef, chicken, pasta, casseroles, sauces, breakfasts… whatever makes sense to you based on the quantities of each that you make and freeze.
The second is by date. This is ideal if you discover great meals you made but never got around to eating before they got freezer burned, or if you are on occassional freezer cooker. Organize items into baskets according to when they need to be eaten by. So you might have one container with meals that need to be eaten by the end of the month, but another container for meals that don’t have to be eaten until three months from now. This will help you to not waste any food!
Whichever method you use, it will definitely make for a neater and better organized freezer meal!
