Your freezer has a plastic flexible seal that maintains the seal to your freezer, keeping the cold air from escaping and allowing warm air in. If the seal is not working, your electricity bill will be higher as the freezer struggles to maintain the optimum freezing temperature as well as the danger of your foods not being kept cold enough and spoiling.
To check your seal, open the door and place a dollar bill between the seal and the freezer, and close the door. Try pulling the bill out. If it pulls out easily, your seal needs replacing. If you find resistance when you pull the bill out, continue the test along the length of the seal, making sure you check the freezer’s seal on the top and bottom as well.
If the seals are working correctly, you will want to make sure you clean the freezer seal. If you need to replace the seal. You can purchase do-it-yourself kits at your local hardware store, or you can get a professional repairman to install one for you.
