Movies can be expensive even to rent – and hard to find with most big box rental companies closing their doors – so here are some tips to save money.
Independent movie rentals
Oftentimes the independent local movie rental stores are even less than the “big box” national movie rental stores. So you can support your local businesses while saving money.
Memberships
Before you buy a membership, be sure you will use it enough to save the money on the rentals. Many places hope you will pay for the membership yet not use it often enough to make it worth while, meaning more money in the store’s pocket and less in yours.
Libraries
Libraries carry many movies – especially children’s movies – and you get to rent them for free. And since so many people use the movie rental stores, you will very likely find the movie you are looking for, or if they don’t have it, many libraries will bring it in from another branch, or recommend it for purchase.
Previously viewed movies
When that big blockbuster doesn’t have the rental demand anymore, movie rental stores hope to recoup even more money by selling the movies off cheap, usually at less than half of retail. You can pick up some great deals, or keep your eyes on them, as the movies tend to get discounted even more to get them out the door.
