Many people don’t realize how much free entertainment can be had your own town… even a small one. There are often local music events, festivals or readings that are all free to attend.
Parks
Many parks offer nature walks or educational series on local wildlife or habitat, especially during the summer months. Find out what your parks offer, and attend some.
Music
Free music festivals are much more common than you think, and they cover a wide range of music types. Even if you aren’t a folk music festival, for example, even spending a couple hours listening can be enjoyable, especially if you have young children who would love to dance to the music!
Gathering areas
Sometimes buskers can be highly entertaining with magic shows, singing and musical talent. And you can listen or be entertained for quite some time, all for the cost of some pocket change.
Book readings
Many book stores offer book readings and events for kids as well as adults. So a “fairy” could come in to talk about fairy tales, or someone dressed as a favorite cartoon character could read from the book or perform a skit. Be sure to check with your local bookstores during the summer or on weekends to see what they have coming up for kids.
