Ever want to cut down on your slow cooker time but aren’t quite sure if you can correctly adjust the time between high and low settings? One hour on high equals two hours on low for most recipes. However, before you go adjusting the times on your recipes, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First, there is a reason that time and temperature settings are stated in the recipe. So while you could very likely easily shave an hour off a recipe by turning it up from low to high in the last hour of cooking, you shouldn’t change a recipe that has 6 hours on low and change it to 3 hours on high, as you could end up with overcooked food.
You can also cook on high for the first hour of cooking, then drop it down to low as the recipe states. This can help you cut the cooking time as well as bring up the temperature of meat up to a safe temperature faster.
