Is it legal to buy and sell coupons on eBay?

If you have ever taken a close look at one of your coupons, you have probably notice it has a notice on it along the lines of "Void if sold, transfered or auctioned". But you have most likely seen many coupons listed on eBay, sold on websites or traded on couponing forums. So is it legal or not to sell or trade coupons?

Yes, it is legal. What the sellers and traders are doing is not actually selling the coupons, but selling their time it took them to find and clip the coupons, and listing and mailing the coupons on eBay.

To keep yourself on the right side of the law, it is quite simple to add a short disclaimer to all your coupon auctions so you do not run afoul of any eBay rules for selling coupons. You can add something similar to this:

All our coupon auctions are for free coupons. The fee you are paying is to cover my service - my time to find, clip, create auction descriptions and list them, and to mail them to the winner.
