When it comes to skewers, the vast majority of people seem to use wooden skewer sticks. Wooden skewers are inexpensive and easy to find. But are wooden skewers actually the best thing to be using on a barbecue? Or should you investigate using metal skewers instead?
Wooden skewers aren’t the best, because they tend to break and burn when you are barbecuing with them over high heat. And the last thing you want to have to do is dig charged pieces of skewer from your meat.
Metal skewers are actually the best. Although they are more expensive to purchase initially, in the long run, you will definitely save money. And they are pretty convenient because they can also go in the dishwasher.
Some metal skewers also come with a rack you can set them on, to make cooking with skewers a little bit easier. But this is really just a preference for you, if you’re happy to have them laid individually directly on your barbecue that’s perfectly fine.
The top-end metal skewers will be made of stainless steel, but if you can’t afford it you can use other types of metal as well, whatever they may not be as durable or last as long.
