Sesame oil is popular in Asian cooking dishes, but it can be a pricey purchase for those who only need a small amount and use it rarely. But what is a good alternative?
The most common substitute for sesame oil would simply be extra virgin olive oil. You can also use other oils such as peanut, sunflower or canola – essentially seed or nut oils.
If the recipe calls for toasted sesame oil, you can still substitute the oil, but you might want to add toasted sesame seeds to the recipe to add the toasted flavor.
If you do end up purchasing sesame oil, it will keep longer if stored in the refrigerator.
