How
to store fresh herbs in your refrigerator
When you purchase
fresh herbs, they often come in those plastic containers,
or in a mishmash bunch tied together with a twist tie, that
you end up putting in a plastic bag. But obviously, neither
of these ways are the best way to stir your herbs to ensure
that the last as long as possible in your refrigerator. Here
is how to keep your fresh herbs fresher longer and best of
all, it is super easy.
Simply grab a tall
water class until about halfway with water, and then put the
stems and the water just as you would with flowers. You need
to ensure that no leaves are sitting below the water surface,
as they can turn the water mucky and promote bacteria. Then
take a plastic bag, or Ziploc baggie you can reuse for the
specific purpose, and place the bag over top of the top of
the herbs, but do not seal it as you need the air to still
circulate.
You will also need
to change the water every day or two, and again so that it
doesn't get bacteria ridden. Your herbs will last for at least
a week or two, much longer than if you'd left them in a plastic
grocery bag or the plastic container.
