How to soften brown sugar

How many times have you gone to use your brown sugar and discovered it is hard as a rock? Yes, there are methods to soften it again, so you don't need to bash it with your kitchen mallet to get enough brown sugar for your recipe.

Place the brown sugar in a microwave safe bowl. Cover with a damp paper towel. Microwave at 3 second intravals until softened. It will likely only take a total of 10-15 seconds to soften, but it can burn quite easily, so it is important to check every three seconds for softness. Enjoy!

To keep your brown sugar from hardening, store in an airtight container or use one of those earth disks designed to keep brown sugar soft.
