We have all stored vegetables in our refrigerator’s crisper and either forgotten about them or discovered they didn’t last quite as long as anticipated. And it isn’t that much fun to have to clean them out after something has gone bad in them! However, this is a great way to help keep your fridge clean while making those inevitable clean-ups a breeze.
Line your vegetable crispers with shelf liners. You may have some leftover from another project, or you can pick up rolls of discontinued styles at a deep discount. It doesn’t matter if the shelf liner colors or pattern doesn’t match your kitchen because they will be covered up with fruits and vegetables.
When some of your vegetables have gone bad, you can pull out the entire shelf lined from the bottom and toss it out, leaving you with the crisper needing only a quick disinfecting wash, rather than the complete scrub down it would have needed otherwise.
When you need to do a deep clean on the crispers, you will find they likely won’t sit easily in your sink to wash. You can wash them in a laundry tub or even a bathtub. Don’t put them in the dishwasher – unless they are marked as dishwasher safe – as they will warp and melt.
