While garlic salt is not as common today as it once was, there are still many recipes, especially the older ones that utilize garlic salt in the recipe. But if you don’t have garlic salt in your pantry, it is actually pretty easy for you to make up your own garlic salt to use in a recipe.
To make 1/4 teaspoon of garlic salt, all you do is combine a 1/8 of a teaspoon of garlic powder with 1/8 of a teaspoon of garlic salt. Mix and there you have your garlic salt.
Because some people are trying to cut down in the amount of salt in their diet many do substitute straight garlic without the additional salt, or might add additional salt later in the cooking process. So if the recipe calls for 1/4 teaspoon of garlic salt, you would simply just use 1/8 of a teaspoon of garlic powder instead, and omit the same completely.
