Bread cubes or croutons are super easy to make at home, but it is pretty easy to underestimate or overestimate just how much bread you need to make 1 cup (or multiples of 1 cup) for croutons.
A good rule of thumb is you need 2 slices of bread for every 1 cup of croutons or bread cubes – it may end up being slightly more than 1 cup depending on the size and thickness of the bread you use, so if your bread is larger or thicker, you can always trim the crusts first.
To make the croutons, simply cut the bread into cubes and spread on a baking pan. Bake at 300F for 10-15 minutes, being sure to stir them a couple of times so they dry evenly. Remove from oven and as they cool they will crisp up a bit more.
If you prefer them seasoned, you can season them before placing them in the oven.
1 cup croutons = 2 slices of bread
2 cups croutons = 4 slices of bread
6 cups croutons = 12 slices of bread
