How to easily grate a block of cheese

How often do you go to grate a block of cheese, especially one of the softer cheeses such as mozzarella, only to have it break and crumble on you as you try and grate it? Here is a trick next time you need to grate cheese.

Ten or fifteen minutes before you need to grate the cheese, simply pop it in the freezer first. This will chill the cheese enough so that it won't crumble or break when you grate it.

And just in case you are wondering, it is usually cheaper to buy a block and grate it yourself, but if the packages of grated cheese are on sale, the packages might actually be cheaper!
