Grenadine is one of those staples in your cupboard if you like to make fancy fruity concoctions, or you just want to add a bit of “fancy flavor” as a treat to your kid’s juice or soda. But do you need to keep grenadine in the refrigerator for storage?
No, you don’t. Grenadine is essentially flavored sugar, without any alcohol, and can be stored safely in your cupboard, pantry or liquor cabinet. If you are purchasing an unusual or special type of grenadine, it is worth double checking the label, but it will generally say on the label if it needs to be refrigerated.
That said, you will want to check it periodically and make sure it doesn’t smell “off”, just like anything else in your pantry.
This also means you can purchase a larger economy size of grenadine, since you don’t need to worry about giving up fridge space to it. And often, the larger sizes cost very little more than the regular bottles you pick up in the grocery store.
