If you let those festive holiday candles burn too long, or one is accidentally knocked, you may have the misfortune of trying to remove candle wax from your tablecloth. Here is how to remove the candle wax and have your table cloth looking as good as new.
Do not throw your tablecloth directly into the washing machine with wax on it! First, pop the table cloth into the freezer to fully harden the candle wax (even room temperature might leave the candle wax a bit soft). Remove the tablecloth from the freezer once the wax is fully hardened. Then using a dull knife (such as the back side of your regular dinner knife) gently scrape the wax off the fabric, being careful not to damage the fabric.
Now, you need to get rid of the residual wax. Set your iron to a low (warm) heat setting, ensuring the steam function is turned off. Put paper towels both on top and underneath the wax, and gently iron the stain… the paper towels will both protect the iron from getting wax on it and will absorb the wax. Change paper towels as needed until wax is completely removed. Then launder the tablecloth as per the label instructions.
