Removing nicotine smoke build-up from mirrors Sometimes mirrors in households with heavy smokers turn a yellowish dingy color because of the amount of nicotine smoke in the air. And unfortunately, plain Windex or a regular window wash cleaner just won’t remove it, no matter how much elbow grease you put into the job. Fortunately, there is a trick you can try… and it also works on other nicotine smoke damaged items such as ceramics and other glass.
First, wipe the mirror with water to remove what can be removed easily. Then, wash the mirror with undiluted ammonia, making sure the area is well ventilated and you do not breathe in the ammonia fumes directly. Rinse with water. Repeat as needed. Then you can finish with your regular window cleaner to give it the good-as-new sparkle again.
