Oven racks are really awkwardly sized when it comes time to clean them. They’re too big to fit in the dishwasher or the kitchen sink to clean them. If you’re lucky enough to have a laundry tub, sometimes they will fit. But most people need a real solution to clean these oven racks.
You want to do this when your oven is completely cold. Remove the racks and knock off any burned-on food that is loose and can be easily removed by hand.
Then you want to take your oven racks outside and place them inside a black garbage bag. I would advise not putting them on your deck or any surface that could be damaged.
Then you want to take a kitchen cloth or an old rag and soak it in ammonia. Then put that ammonia-soaked rag into a garbage bag with your oven racks and seal it tightly.
Let your oven racks sit in the sealed garbage bag overnight. Then remove the oven racks and wash them down with soap and water. You can do this outside with a garden hose to make it easier because of your oven racks’ awkward size.
After this, you can put your oven racks back in the oven and use them as normal, being sparkly clean.
