Contrary to popular belief, bath toys don’t think clean simply because they are in the bath everyday. Mildew can form in the site squeaky bath toys, such as the ones that spit water or squeaks, such as your typical rubber ducky. Because the water gets trapped inside bacteria and mildew can form. And when your child squeezes them, it can expel the bacteria and mildew right into the bath water. Yuck!
If you cannot afford to replace these types of bath toys on a monthly basis, you can clean them yourself. In a large bowl or bucket, use half cup of plain white vinegar for every gallon of water you use. Pop the toys in the water, making sure to squeeze each toy in a few times so that the cleaning solution gets inside, and you have helped force out the bacteria and mildew.
Allow to soak for 10 to 15 minutes, then give them a gentle scrub. Place them on a dry dish towel to dry.
