Cleaning smoke stains from a brick fireplace

One of the unfortunate parts about having a fire in your brick fireplace is that smoke can stain and discolor the brick above the fireplace. You can remove this stain from your fireplace.

Start at the bottom, wetting bricks even if they aren't stained. When water drips down the wall, it will help prevent the running off water from staining those bricks too.

Use a special abrasive brick cleaner following the instructions on the package. You usually will need to continue to rinse until the water runoff is clear.

You may want to wear gloves when you clean off the smoke stains from your fireplace to protect your hands.
