Does it seem like when you do polish your silver, it is a tremendous job to do because you let it go so long? And silver polishing cloths make the job much easier, but it is also expensive. But did you know you can make your own silver polishing cloths?
To make these silver polishing cloths, you need:
12″ square cloths in soft fabric (flannel, flannelette, even worn cloth baby diapers you don’t need!)
2 cups water
1/4 cup liquid silver polish
1/2 cup ammonia
rubber gloves
You will need a place where you can hang the cloths to dry, such as a towel rack, clothesline, or even your shower curtain rod.
In a glass measuring cup or bowl, mix the water, polish and ammonia together. Put on your rubber gloves, then one at a time, dip each cloth in the mixture until saturated. Remove from mixture, squeeze out the excess silver mixture, then hang to dry (each should be squeezed enough that none of the silver mixture will drip down when the towels are hanging to dry.
Once completely dry, store in a ziploc bag with your cleaning supplies.
To use, simply use the cloths to clean your silver pieces as you would use silver polishing cloths you buy in a store.
