Did you know you can make a very low cost – and organic – deodorant body powder? It is perfect for daily use, you don’t have to put chemicals from commercial deodorant on sensitive parts of your body, and you can tailor it to any scent you’d like, depending on your tastes or your mood.
In a ziploc bag combine equal amounts of organic cornstarch and baking soda (if you want to keep the cost really down, you can use non-organic cornstarch and baking soda). Shake the bag to combine the ingredients well. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil scent, reseal the bag and then mash it around a few times. Repeat this several times over the next day or so until the essential oil is thoroughly combined and not clumping.
If you want to make the organic version, the organic ingredients can usually be found at any health food store if they aren’t in your local grocery store.
To use, simply use a cotton ball, cotton pad or face puff to dust it under your arms. It can get a bit dusty, so I recommend applying it in the bathroom and before you put your shirt on. Store in an airtight container so the baking soda doesn’t absorb any scents from your house.
You can make several small batches with different scents to suit your mood for different days depending on what you are doing. If you are going out at night, you might want a sexy floral scent, while you might prefer something lighter or fruitier for daily use.
